Lady Gaga + More Inspire with Songs for Together at Home 2020

It was the first Saturday (April 18th) in quarantine where music fans and families all over the world finally got a taste of live music throughout the entire day by big named artists. The One World: Together at Home festival was put on by Global Citizen and enlisted dozens of established musicians to perform one song from their homes in a livestream event, hosted by her highness Lady Gaga.

One World: Together at Home is a campaign rallying funds for COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund for the World Health Organization. The star-studded event drew millions of viewers throughout the day (and after) to watch their favorite artists sing, talk and inspire.

All music genres were represented: from pop, rock, indie, and R&B, to rap, world, EDM, reggae, and soul. The event had a little something for everyone. In between the performances were clips of first responders on the frontlines in the medical field, talking about the challenges they face, the hope they instill, and what is being done to overcome this difficult time. Viewers got to hear from top doctors and scientists who are working on a vaccine, and even the likes of Bill Gates, Michelle Obama and Oprah.

But the best surprise appearance was by Beyonce, who highlighted a very important issue in her community:

“Black Americans disproportionately belong to these essential parts of the workforce that do not have the luxury of working from home,” she said. “And African American communities at large have been severely affected in this crisis. Those with pre-existing conditions are at an even higher risk. This virus is killing black people at an alarmingly high rate here in America."

While being made aware of all the effects the virus is having across the globe, one unifying message tied it all together to inspire hope and togetherness - music.

All the artists picked the most on-brand song for the situation. Lady Gaga, who organized the whole festival, performed a cover of Nat King Cole's "Smile."

Keith Urban performed a cover of Steve Winwood's "Higher Love," or shall I say THREE Keith's performed it.

Charlie Puth played his hit single "See You Again," but that wasn't the only relatable material he brought to the table - the internet could not stop talking about his unmade bed and unfolded laundry, which, let's be honest - that's a whole quarantine MOOD compared to most artist's fantastical backdrops.

The Rolling Stones, not sheltering together, all dialed-in, via four different cams, to do a very spot-on performance of "You Can't Always Get What You Want," which may as well be the theme-song to the COVID-quarantine reality show.

The Stones weren't the only classic rock legacy acts to dial in. Elton John performed "I'm Still Standing" on his piano, which was situated in his backyard in front of his portable basketball court, and to echo my mom - "how the heck did he get that thing out there!"

Paul McCartney did his song "Lady Madonna" which really tugged at the heartstrings as images of nurses and doctors on the frontlines from all over the world were displayed alongside his performance.

Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day really got into our feels by singing the song that probably popped into everyone's head one week into isolation - "Wake Me Up When September Ends."

Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes gave everyone heavy "quarantine couple" envy as they sang a duet rendition of "What a Wonderful World" on the piano.

Sheryl Crow blessed us by popping up two times throughout the day, the first time to sing "I Shall Believe" with a snippet of a cover of "What the World Needs Now is Love." For her second performance she did "Everyday is a Winding Road" because wow, it sure is.

Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas covered Bobby Hebb's "Sunny." Billie said "I love this song, it's always made me feel good."

Taylor Swift made her fans overjoyed when she live debuted her song "Soon You'll Get Better" off Lover on the piano for her performance.

And perhaps the biggest highlight of the night came when Celine Dion, Andrea Bocelli, Lady Gaga, Lang Lang, and John Legend performed "The Prayer" together. Check out the gorgeous, team effort rendition right here:

The festival really helped to scratch that itch we can't reach while we're being depraved of live shows for an unforeseeable amount of time. We're just happy that more livestream events are yet to come to help pass the time.
