Steely Dan Kicked Off Their Tour at PNC Music Pavilion in Charlotte

Steely Dan kicked off "The Summer of Living Dangerously" tour last night (May 10) at PNC Music Pavilion in Charlotte, North Carolina with fellow rock veterans Doobie Brothers. This tour marks the jazz-infused rock band's first major run since co-founding member Walter Becker passed away back in September.

Other founder and singer Donald Fagen led the band into a career-spanning set that lasted 19 songs, two of which were part of the encore. The set included important Steely Dan staples like "Aja," "Dirty Work," "Reelin' in the Years" amid a number of deep cuts from the band's nine album catalog. The setlist also included songs from Fagen's solo career and two covers - "Keep That Same Old Feeling" by The Crusaders and "The Untouchables" by Nelson Riddle.

Before the encore, Fagen paid respects to his late friend and musical partner. The 70-year-old New Jersey native shortly but sweetly said “It’s weird for me to be up here without my brother, my partner, Mr. Walter Becker," as he settled behind his electric piano before performing the hit classic "Reelin' In the Years."

The band's co-headling jaunt with Doobie Brothers will stretch until mid-July, and then they'll hop back on the road in October. Head to their website for more information.
