Ed Sheeran - Feeling Good / I See Fire

Ed Sheeran - Feeling Good / I See Fire

There's the issue with Ed Sheeran's “Feeling Good / I See Fire”. It's in the stats as medley 125 times, although there's a confirmation that both songs were played in their entirety, at least in Portland a week ago. So the question is: did Ed Sheeran change the way he plays the two songs, or should the songs be split?

I caught Sheeran earlier this week in Tokyo, so I feel like I can now weigh in on this issue. “Feeling Good” and “I See Fire” were absolutely both performed in their entirety, and they even had separate videos; they simply did not have a break in the middle like Sheeran usually includes. Likewise, “One” and “Photograph” were performed without a break in the same way. On the other hand, his medley of “Lego House / Kiss Me / Give Me Love” seemed a bit shortened, though I would wager that almost all of the verses were still included.

I would personally vote for splitting the former songs (as I think it's simply been an issue of uploaders copy-pasting old setlists since Sheeran's set is usually so similar), while I would probably leave the latter medley as-is. Does anyone have an objection to this?

Thanks for the reply! This topic is almost two years old – but this proves that the forum works :-)

No objections from my side of course.

Here's my opinion coming from someone who's seen the tour a few times:
I think the reason it is marked as a medley (similar to the Don't / New Man case) is because Sheeran uses the same background music (played on his guitar and looped) in both Feeling Good and I See Fire. This is the same case with Don't / New Man although this is better marked as a medley because Ed reprises the Don't chorus at the end of New Man.

I have nothing against splitting the songs, although with Ed Sheeran setlists I know that when songs blend into each other they have always been marked as a medley (instead of splitting the songs or adding an @Info tag, even when there's just a small snippet of another song). Might mess up his song statistics, so if Feeling Good / I See Fire is split it would be worth looking at other cases where Ed blends one song into another (such as Don't / Nina, and Take It Back / Superstition).

Hi rlp132,
Thanks so much for your input! “Don't / New Man” is definitely a medley, not just because he repeats the “Don't” chorus at the end, but also because (at least when I saw him) he only plays one verse and one chorus of New Man”. According to the “Guidelines, medleys are a mix of different song snippets, not two full songs.

So, if “Feeling Good” and “I See Fire” are two full-length songs that blend into each other due to a continuing loop, would this typically be marked as a medley or two separate songs? Do you have any suggestions, michi?

Also, rlp132, I'm thinking to split “One / Photograph” as well. Do you have an opinion about this?

And “Don't / Nina” and “Take It Back / Superstition”…are these a medley (mix of song snippets or a full song with a snippet of another), or are these two full songs blended together with a loop?

Thought I would bring this topic back before the upcoming Ed tour.

From the guidelines: “If one of the songs was performed in full then it does not fit the definition of a medley. A song info should be added for additional snippets. E.g. add with 'Black Dog' intro as song info for Whole Lotta Love”
https://www.setlist.fm/guidelines#setlistMedleys

A number of Ed songs currently marked as medleys should not be marked as such because they only include very short snippets of a cover song which belong in an @Info tag. Example: Runaway / Everybody (Backstreet's Back)
https://www.setlist.fm/stats/songs/ed-sheeran-53d5f3bd.html?songid=73c56a3d
At 4:15 of this video you can see that at the end of performing Runaway in full, Ed sings a ~20 second snippet of Everybody (Backstreet's Back). So really this should be written as Runaway @Info[with snippet of Backstreet Boys' “Everybody (Backstreet's Back)”]
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FztzcFom9dg

I would use the duplicate song form to report these but I don't think it's possible to batch edit with adding @Info tags? Let me know, otherwise I will post some similar cases below where the Medleys should be swapped for @Info tags.

Don't / Loyal / No Diggity
-> Don't @Info[with Chris Brown's “Loyal” and Blackstreet's “No Diggity”]

You Need Me, I Don't Need You / In Da Club / Fancy
-> You Need Me, I Don't Need You @Info[with 50 Cent's “In Da Club” and Iggy Azalea's “Fancy”]

You Need Me, I Don't Need You / Fancy

You Need Me, I Don't Need You / In Da Club / Know Yourself

Plenty more cases but I thought I’d start with these.

@rlp – I believe you're correct and the Info note can't normally be batch edit added when switching a medley to a song with an @Info note.
This came up in the last year or two, maybe @michi can weigh in. He had a solve but I don't remember if the circumstances matched.

@michi can weigh in.

Of course. Had to check and try it first, but @Info can be added when using the moderator batch editing tool. It will be added to all instances of the song. However, if a “wrong” song already has an @Info note, then it won't be applied. I.e. no overrides. Another minor caveat is when copying rlp132's info notes, one has replace the quotes and apostrophes with the default ones (the ones next to the colon on an English/American keyboard, the forum somehow uses different ones).

^ Think that works perfectly, then the wrong songs that weren't overrided can be manually changed.

Okay here's another one. For years Death Angel has played the intro of The Ultra Violence for about a minute & it leads into another song, depending on the tour. I have found a number of YouTube clips proving this & have edited the respective setlists to be right, per the medley guidelines. It's listed here, mostly, as a medley. Of course, some users are going by what the printed setlist states, which is “The Ultra Violence/ Thrown to the Wolves”.

Example: https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/death-angel/2023/roxian-theatre-mckees-rocks-pa-bb9ddbe.html#sfmsesg395391b

This is correct:

https://www.setlist.fm/stats/songs/death-angel-53d6ff41.html?songid=1bd3d9cc

Actually, it should be listed as “Thrown to the Wolves @Info[with The Ultra Violence intro].

Anthrax did the same thing in 2019. They opened & closed their shows with the intro & outro to Cowboys From Hell by Pantera. It's listed correctly on here.

Okay here's another one. Death Angel has been playing the intro to The Ultra-Violence followed by a full song but on here, mostly, it's been listed as a medley. I have found a number of YouTube clips proving this & have edited the respective setlists to be right, per the medley guidelines.

Example:

https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/death-angel/2023/roxian-theatre-mckees-rocks-pa-bb9ddbe.html#sfmsesg395391b

Shouldn't it be listed as Thrown to the Wolves @Info[with The Ultra-Violence intro]?

Anthrax did the same thing in 2019 using the intro & outro of Cowboys From Hell by Pantera to open & close their shows.
